Sedation Dentistry
Bonham Dental Arts wants you to feel comfortable in our office for your dental care.
Dental fear, or phobia, is a very real and serious concern for the estimated one-half
of the US population who have anxiety associated with visiting the dental office and
receiving dental treatment. Bonham Dental Arts uses safe and effective medications to
reduce stress, anxiety, and fear. Choose from nitrous oxide (laughing gas), an oral
sedative, a combination of gas and oral medication, or IV sedation.
If youve put off visiting the dentist because of anxiety, fear, gag reflex, or
any other concerns, you may want to consider sedation dentistry. Patients will receive
needed dental work in a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. Best of all, most patients who
receive sedation dentistry remember little from the actual procedure.
Nitrous
Nitrous oxide can provide a relaxing dental experience with no residual effects. If you
have minimal anxiety, and oral sedation is not your preference, nitrous can be provided
as an option. Prior to starting your dental procedure, a mask-type appliance will be
placed over your nose to administer oxygen and nitrous. As you breathe normally, you will
feel drowsy, but will still be coherent and aware of your surroundings. The effects will
only last a few minutes once the mask is removed, and you will be able to drive to and
from the appointment feeling completely normal.
Oral & IV Sedation
ONE PILL, NO PAIN - From Bonham Dental Arts!
Oral sedation works well when a patient experiences a high level of anxiety. Bonham Dental
Arts will provide prescriptions for the patient to take at bedtime to get a good nights rest
and one hour prior to your dental appointment. It is required that a friend or family member
drive you to and from your appointment, as the sedative usually lasts about six hours. Oral
sedation places the patient in a deeply relaxed state, though fully responsive and capable
of responding to Dr. Bonhams questions. Patients will have little or no memory of the
procedure itself and after 24 hours will be able to resume normal activities.
Patient Comfort
Bonham Dental Arts provides many options for your comfort that can make going to the
dentist relaxing and enjoyable. Patients choose from a huge
selection of current and classic
movies on a Flat Screen TV during their appointment, listen to music, watch Cable TV, Netflix,
or enjoy a warm blanket and pillow! If you need to use a computer, the Internet is available for
your convenience in the reception area or through WIFI. Children may enjoy playing in our kid
friendly room that has its own TV, books, and toys to entertain while siblings may be having dental
treatment. Going to the dentist can actually be a great way to relax!
