First Consultation
What should be expected at my first visit?
As you enter our office, you will be greeted by one of our friendly team members
who will be expecting your visit. We will then have you complete some simple
paperwork (or you can complete it online prior to your visit), including medical
history and patient information forms. Then, you will meet one of the doctors at
Bonham Dental Arts who will take the time to listen to your needs
and concerns.
Next, we will examine your teeth and discuss the options that are specific to your
needs. Your initial appointment (non-emergency) will entail a Comprehensive
Dental Examination. This gives us a full understanding of your current oral
health so we can determine your best treatment options. This examination will include
a routine oral cancer screening, TMJ evaluation, soft tissue evaluation, as well as an
examination of your teeth and gum. This may be one of the most thorough dental exams
you have ever received. We might also use a small digital intraoral camera to take some
images of your teeth so that you can actually see and better understand your areas of
concern when we discuss them with you.
Please allow 1 to 1.5 hours for adults and 1 hour for children for the initial exam.
For your convenience we can offer same day cleanings with your initial exam. If you
choose this option, please allow 2 hours.
The Comprehensive Exam includes:
| |
Introduction to our office and staff
|
| |
Review of your medical & dental history
|
| |
Blood pressure & oral cancer screening (adults only)
|
| |
Radiographs (low-level, full-mouth, digital x-rays)
|
| |
Orthodontic and bite evaluation
|
| |
Periodontal evaluation (adults only)
|
| |
Diagnosis, treatment plan, estimated costs
|
PLEASE NOTE: The Adult Comprehensive Exam does not include cleaning. The type,
number, and frequency of hygiene visits vary widely from case to case. Your recommended
cleaning or periodontal therapy will be done at a future appointment.
Finally, with all this information, the doctor will take his time to discuss with you the
status of your oral health, necessary treatment and treatment options. In addition, we will
provide you with an estimate for the work that is needed and discuss financial options. If
you approve of the plan, your appointments will be scheduled. We encourage our patients to
ask questions and to take an active role in their dental healthcare. Well never rush
you into making a decision. Our goal is to make sure that youre informed and comfortable
with your choices. We pride ourselves on taking extra steps to educate
our patients.
If your first visit is an emergency visit, instead of a comprehensive oral exam, the doctor
will perform a problem-focused exam. He will then recommend or provide the necessary emergency
treatment based on your need.
